January 10, 2010
My dear Friends and NIST Family!
I want to take this opportunity to wish you, all along with your family and friends, a Happy and very prosperous New Year in 2010!
Can you believe it, it’s already a brand new year; a new beginning for us all. 2010…according to the Chinese calendar this is the Year of the Tiger. It is said that the Tiger is passionate, honest and modest. This animal sign is naturally forgiving, rarely holding grudges for long. It symbolizes eternal family values; Rates highly on friends’ support and cares...
I have been hard at work on our website which is now almost ready for launch! With the assistance of NIST friend, Carole Barnett, I was able to upload some very necessary informational pieces along with some fun photos that I’m sure will bring you warm memories. Please go and check it out starting Friday, Jan. 15th! http://www.nist-softball.com. This website will be updated periodically, especially in the next few months. Please join me in giving Carole a heart-felt ‘thank you’!
Having received hundreds of encouraging emails and phone calls I am overly excited and very optimistic about our upcoming events…the consensus is: if we stick together this will be a huge success…I absolutely agree! That being said, I have an official announcement to make: after much convincing and many conversations with Allan Hebbert (Nicas Empire Manager), Monty Wells and Van Alex Narcisso (Coast Team of SF) it has been agreed: the 2010 NIST Tournament will NOT be held in California but instead it will be moved to MIAMI, FLORIDA!
The change of venue was respectfully made based on requests made by many of you. This change was agreed upon primarily due to the current economic struggle which is being felt throughout the entire world. I do understand and accept that having the Tournament in Miami would make it much easier on the majority though it is very difficult to ask a host team to give up their plans. I have relayed your concerns to the California Teams and as I mentioned before, they were gracious enough to agree to move the location of the Tournament. Please keep in mind, the hosts remain the same: this tournament is being hosted by both Nicas Empire and Coast Team of San Francisco. I thank both teams’ representatives for their understanding and for shifting the tournament from their hometown.
Now that we have absolutely decided where the tournament is going to be held I am ready to get to work and I hope that you are too. I will be calling on each and every one of you for your assistance and support. Invitational letters will be sent out in the next few weeks. I have a some marketing ideas that I will bounce off of you guys. One of my goals is for us to reunite and recapture the massive audience that we once had…I cannot do that without your help.
While on a recent trip to Bluefields, Nicaragua I was able to speak to one of the Sports Representatives that works directly with Mayor Haroldo Bacon. Though they acknowledge that they are not able to accommodate us any sooner due to massive construction plans on the baseball fields, they are very excited about us having the tournament in the City of Bluefields next year. NIST 2011 – Bluefields, Nicaragua….get set! The Mayor and his staff are getting ready for the events next year and promise to aid us in making this an affair to remember!
Speaking of getting ready… Miami…here we come! In preparation of the upcoming events in Miami, and with the assistance of another NIST Volunteer, Evenor Narcisso, we have prepared a fun video for you. Hit the link below and enjoy. If you have problems uploading the video, go to YouTube and search for NIST 2010!

"Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." — Ralph Waldo Emerson
